The Best Kale Chips

KALE YEAH!


Whether you are a purist who only eats whole foods or a foodie looking for new snack ideas, kale chips are a perfect way to eat more greens. Kale is rich in vitamins A, C, K, and an essential source of minerals such as potassium, calcium, zinc, and phosphorus. Kale contains two phytonutrients, lutein and zeaxanthin, which are said to benefit eye health. In general, dark leafy greens such as kale, chard, and spinach offer the strongest protection against chronic illness by boosting the immune system. There are many great ways to sneak greens into your diets such as adding a handful to smoothies, soups, and pasta.

With 3 simple ingredients, Kale chips are easy to make and delectable to eat. Steps to perfect kale chip are as follows:

Ingredients

  1. 1-2 bunches of curly Kale

  2. Sea Salt

  3. Olive oil 

Recipe: 

  1. Preheat oven to 300 F. The trick to perfectly evenly crisp kale chips is to bake them at a lower heat for longer. 

  2. Wash Kale and tear or slice leaves from the stems

  3. Chop kale into bite-size pieces, dry kale with a salad spinner or pat with a napkin

  4. Mist with olive oil 

  5. Sprinkle with sea salt

  6. Place kale chips on a baking tray in one layer

  7. Bake for 20-15 minutes at 300 F. 

  8. Let them cool on the pan before serving. 


Fun Variations

  1. Chili Lime Kale Chips: add a spritz of lime juice and a sprinkle of chili powder before baking

  2. Salt and Vinegar Kale Chips: Add 1-2 tsp of vinegar(apple cider, rice, or white) when mixing kale with olive oil. This is also done before baking

  3. Parmesan Kale Chips: mix parmesan, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and coat kale chips before baking. 

  4. Curried Kale Chips: blend 1 ts curry powder and 1 ts garlic powder coat kale chips before baking.
