As a network of urban gardeners, La Mesa Verde’s mission is dedicated to increasing access to healthy, nutritive food in San Jose.

Through empowering neighborhood families with their own home gardens, raised beds, and community plots, they are working to improve food security, and additionally create a strong, sustainable food system in areas that need it most.

Good food belongs to all of us!

La Mesa Verde proves with every seed planted, every child with dirt under their nails, every parent pruning and plucking, and every family gathering to harvest & share with their community, that seeking and advocating for food justice is something we should all stand for. Good food belongs to all of us!

La Mesa Verde has served over 600 families in the San Jose area ( and counting), and helps to install nearly 50 gardens a year in family yards, schools, churches, and other community spaces.

It doesn’t stop there. In order to sustain long-lasting communal change, La Mesa Verde provides free workshops, classes, and resources to families in the community, showing them how to best care for and maintain their food spaces. The coolest!

Our friends at La Mesa Verde are offering their annual Garden Tour for FREE ONLINE this upcoming Saturday, August 8th from 9:30 a.m - 11:30 a.m. PST. They’ll be highlighting a handful of their members’ gardens and stories in both English and Spanish. We can’t wait to tune in!

The Garden Tour will be live-streamed from the La Mesa Verde Facebook page, @LaMesaVerdeSHCS.
